Boulangerie Fairmount Bagel

Fairmount Bagel est une boulangerie montréalaise réputée située au cœur du Mile-End.

Françis à suivre ! << According to their website, it was the very first bagel bakery in Montreal. Although it opened in 1919 it wasn’t until 1949 that its founder, Isadore Shlafman, moved the business to Fairmount Avenue and gave it its present name. Today the bakery is run by Mr. Shlafman’s grandchildren. The two identical sign panels (panned and painted acrylic) were installed in 1980, and completely replaced with facsimiles in 2018. Zev Moses and his team at the Museum of Jewish Montreal saved both panels and very kindly offered one of them to the MSP. Although it has a large diagonal break, we worked with local art conservator René Sandín to safely install the sign without doing any further damage.>>
