Sharx Pool Bar

Sharx Pool Bar was located in the Faubourg complex at 1606 Rue Ste-Catherine Ouest. It might not have been a particularly distinguished pool hall, but its sign is another matter entirely. Indeed, its interior is a marvel to behold: clusters of fibre optic filaments, two motor-driven mini-carousels with patterns of coloured gels, spot lights to send the animated colours through the fibre optics to the front of the sign, mini fans to cool the workings, and scorch marks galore. In other words this sign’s particular ‘wow’ factor was entirely hidden from the sign’s intended audience. No one we’ve spoken with can quite believe how this sign works, which is why we’ve put it on display (June 2023) so the remarkable innards are visible too.
UPDATE [October 2023] We’re delighted to have been contacted by artist Nicolas Poteet, who identified himself as the creator of the Sharx Pool Bar logo in 1990! Here’s the original artwork he produced:
